About SAPIENT Helpdesk
SAPIENT Helpdesk is an independent developer resource for SAPIENT / BSI Flex 335: open-source tools and practical documentation for the people building, integrating and testing SAPIENT systems.
The name
In SAPIENT integration work and trials, "the helpdesk" was where people went to get started with their SAPIENT implementation. This site continues that idea as a set of tools: a place to start when you need to develop, debug or test a SAPIENT system. It is not a ticketing service. Questions and bug reports go to the issue tracker of the tool concerned on GitHub.
Independence
This site and its tools are independently maintained. They are not official DSTL, UK Ministry of Defence, BSI or NATO products, and are not endorsed by those organisations. Passing the test harness is not a certification.
The authoritative sources for SAPIENT are:
- BSI Flex 335 v2.0, the SAPIENT Interface Control Document, published by BSI;
- the SAPIENT guidance on GOV.UK;
- DSTL's SAPIENT-Proto-Files, the protobuf schema.
Maintainer
Tom Mann is a software engineer with extensive experience implementing and integrating SAPIENT systems, including work on the SAPIENT standard, integration tooling and C-UAS trials. He is listed as a principal author of previous versions of the SAPIENT standard, and is a member of the SAPIENT Standardisation Sub-Committee (S3C).
Open source
All three tools are on GitHub under the MIT or Apache-2.0 licence, at your option:
- sapient-test-harness: conformance and integration test harness
- sapient-bindings: Rust, Python, C#, Go and Java bindings
- sapient-wireshark-dissector: Wireshark and tshark dissector
Bug reports, corrections and pull requests are welcome. If you think a tool has misread the standard, an issue that cites the relevant clause of BSI Flex 335 is the most useful kind.
